What is SMART tag?

The SMART tag™ bus pass system is a new school transportation technology that enhances student safety and transportation efficiency for school buses. It uses RFID-enabled ID cards that students scan when boarding or exiting the bus. This provides real-time tracking of student bus activity, ensuring they are on the correct bus and getting off at the correct stop. It also allows the EPSD transportation department coordinators to see which students are on each bus and where busses are located along their assigned routes in real time.

How does it work?

The SMART tag™ system uses passive RFID-enabled ID cards to enhance student safety and streamline school bus transportation. These cards, which do not store student information or emit tracking data, are scanned by an RFID reader when students board or exit the bus. This ensures they are on the correct bus and tracks their boarding and drop-off locations. The data is securely recorded and helps school staff monitor student transportation. Bus drivers also use this information to confirm which students are on board and their designated stops, reducing errors and improving safety. RFID technology is widely trusted and used in industries like healthcare, libraries, and amusement parks.
