As part of our schoolwide bullying prevention efforts, we are using Wayfinder, Officer Paul, and the Shakespeare Anti-Bullying resources to give students the tools to recognize, respond to, and prevent bullying. Students are learning to identify and define different types of bullying, including physical, verbal, social, and cyberbullying, while also differentiating between natural conflict and bullying behaviors that involve power imbalances. They are practicing how to recognize bullying in a variety of scenarios and developing the ability to use resources such as Safe2Tell and trusted adults to seek help when needed.

The lessons focus on cyberbullying, gaslighting, and the consequences of harmful online and relational behaviors. Students are practicing how to distinguish between tattling and reporting, and they are engaging in scenario-based activities where they learn how bystanders can take action and become upstanders. They also work on collaboration skills, generating ideas for preventing bullying within their classrooms and school community while building a shared sense of responsibility for a safe environment.

By the end of the year, students are expected to clearly identify bullying behaviors and distinguish them from conflict, understand the roles of bystanders and upstanders, and demonstrate how to report concerns effectively. They will be able to describe the impact of cyberbullying, navigate conflict in positive ways, and identify trusted adults they can talk to when issues arise. Most importantly, students will practice and apply strategies that contribute to a safer, kinder, and more supportive learning community.
