School Board Election 2019

  • The next school board election will be held in November of 2019. Three directors will be elected in the November 2019 election. 

    Directors with terms expiring in 2019 include:

    • Eric Adams, Current Vice President (2015-2019)
    • Jason Cushner, Current Secretary (2015-2019)
    • Jonathan Hodde, Current Treasurer (2015-2019)

    All three board members with terms expiring are eligible to run again for current seats in the upcoming election.
    Serving as a Board of Education Director for the Estes Park School District is a volunteer position and each director will serve a four-year term.  Board work sessions are held on the second Tuesday of each month at 8:30 a.m. in the Administration Building conference room on campus, and Regular Meetings are held on the fourth Monday of each month at 6:00 p.m. at the Town Municipal Building on MacGregor Avenue. Traditionally, regular Board meetings are not held in the month of July. Board members also serve on one or more special designation committees that meet periodically throughout the school year that include Student Accountability Committees (SAC), District Accountability Committee (DAAC), Finance Committee, Agenda Planning, etc. 

    Board member candidate qualifications

    Pursuant to Colorado State Statutes, a candidate for the office of school board director:

    • Must be a registered elector of Estes Park District for at least 12 consecutive months prior to the election;
    • Must be a resident of the district boundary for which he or she is a candidate at the time of filing the notice of intention and supporting petition; and
    • Must not have been convicted of, plead guilty or nolo contendere to, or received a deferred judgment and sentence for a sexual offense against a child.

    • Cannot be term limited. 

    Please note that candidate qualifications will be verified through the records of the Larimer County Clerk and Recorder. Background checks will be conducted.

    Throughout the election period, candidates are required to fulfill filing/reporting obligations. See the timeline (posted when available) and the Secretary of State’s office for details. (Note: Fulfilling state filling requirements are the sole responsibility of the candidate)

    C.R.S. 22-31-107 provides that school districts with more than 1,000 students post in a prominent area on the school district’s official website, an image of the written notice of intention by each candidate for school district director and their candidate contact information. As required, candidates are listed in alphabetical order by surname under the director district they are a candidate for.

Important Dates

  • August 7: First day that nomination petitions may be circulated 
    August 30: Nomination petitions and accompanying forms must be filed by this date. Deadline for Write-in affidavit. 
    August 30: Deadline to file as a write-in candidate
    September 3: First date on which a school district may cancel an election if there is no contest
    November 5: Election Day
