I have been honored to serve on the Estes Park Board of Education for the past four years. It has been a time of big challenges and immense growth for our district. I believe that when we tackle our challenges together, keeping our focus on what’s best for kids, we can build outstanding schools here in Estes Park. During my time on the Board, the District has adopted rigorous new math curricula in both the Elementary and Middle Schools, adopted a comprehensive literacy curriculum in the Elementary School, hired expert instructional coaches in all three schools, built a new Career and Technical Education building, and consistently added exciting new classes at the High School. These efforts are already having positive impacts on our students and I believe that we are well on our way to building those outstanding schools.

As the mother of two young boys in elementary school, the quality of an Estes Park education is immensely important to me. I want my young children and their classmates to feel safe and cared for in their schools, to achieve a solid foundation in math and literacy, and to be encouraged to be kind, empathetic, and creative. As they grow and move on to middle school and high school, I want them to learn to solve problems collaboratively and persevere when things get hard, to have the opportunity to explore a wide range of interests, and to be well-prepared for whatever path they choose after graduation. I believe that the Estes Park School District is committed to the same ideals and to achieving the goal of an excellent educational experience for every student, every day.

Growing up, I attended public school in a small town in upstate New York, similar in many ways to Estes Park. After earning a Master of Science in Geophysics and a Master of Arts in Teaching from Cornell University, I worked for several years as a middle school science teacher in Houston, Texas. I know the impact that high-quality professional development had in my own teaching career, as I was rated a highly effective teacher in just my third year in the classroom. As a result, I’m committed to attracting and retaining top talent and to making sure that all of our teachers, administrators, and staff have access to top notch training and coaching. If we want to continue to improve educational outcomes for all of our students, we have to invest in the adults in our schools. We have a truly amazing staff here in Estes Park, and we owe it to them and to our students to help each one of them reach their full potential.

I love being a part of the Estes Valley community and raising my family here. I have so much to give to the school district and look forward to helping the Estes Park schools grow and thrive for many years to come.
